Hello Anonymous Grade 10 student!
I will be guiding you on how to answer the following question from Life Orientation Grade 10 Source-Based Task (2025 Term 1), and all answers come from the Focus Grade 10 Life Orientation textbook.
Explain why the principle of rule of law must always be upheld in a democratic society.
According to the Focus Grade 10 Life Orientation textbook, the rule of law means that all citizens of a country must follow its laws, regardless of their power or status. The government must also govern according to the law and the Constitution.

The rule of law must always be upheld in a democratic society because:

  1. It protects human rights.
  2. It is very important in our lives.
  3. It keeps us safe.
  4. It solves arguments.
  5. It helps us to be successful.

These five principles define the rule of law and ensure that democracy functions properly by making sure that everyone is treated equally under the law.
